The Weeknd Performs “Can’t Feel My Face” and “In the Night” at 2016 Grammy Awards
The Weeknd performed a couple of his hit songs at the 2016 Grammy Awards Monday night (Feb. 15).
The XO head honcho dressed in a black tux performed "Can't Feel My Face" and "In the Night" with a band in front of colorful lights. The spirited performance was highlighted by The Weeknd's strong vocals and cool demeanor. By the end of his set, the audience gave the Toronto native a standing ovation.
The Weeknd snagged seven nominations for Beauty Behind the Maddness: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, Best Written Song for Visual Media, Best Pop Solo Performance.
“Earned It,” The Weeknd’s smash single that was featured on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, is also nominated for Best Original Song and Best Original Screenplay. The 2016 Academy Awards will be hosted by Chris Rock and air live on ABC on Feb. 28. The full list of nominations can be read via the Oscars official website.
Beauty Behind the Madness debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200, selling 326,000 copies sold in the week ending Sept. 3. At one point every song on the LP charted on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Hopefully, the Grammy after-party will go differently this year than last year. In an interview last October, The Weeknd shared a story of the time Taylor Swift petted his hair.
“[Swift] actually schooled me on my own shit,” the singer said. “She was like, ‘I’ve been listening to ‘The Morning’ [from House of Balloons] for years -- it’s one of my favorite songs ever!’ I mean, she might have just Googled it. But she seemed genuine.” The conversation went on for about 15 minutes -- with a bizarre twist. “The whole time she was talking, she was kind of, like, petting my hair?” the Weeknd recalled. “I think she was just drawn to it -- she must have been a little gone off a few drinks. And of course I’m not going to be like, ‘Hey, can you stop?’ I mean, it felt good! But when she started petting my hair, that’s when I was like, ‘I definitely need a drink.'”
